----> Laundry Room Re-do

It's taken five years of living in this house for me to finally do something with the laundry room.  When the idea of painting it first crossed my mind I knew I wanted a fun happy color because if you're going to be in there doing one of life's most mundane chores folding laundry you better have something fun and happy going on.  A bright orange was my first color of choice- it was bold but I talked myself out of that really quick because I didn't want it looking like a Creamsicle when I was done.

Fast forward a zillion months later and I'm getting my hair done in my friend's cute salon and her wall color spoke to me.  In so many words it said it wanted to be part of my house.

And it was TEAL.
So that is the route I went.

The measly shelf you see here on your left was what I hung clothes from.  On any given night, usually when my husband was out of town and I was hypersensitive to any little noise, it would decide to collapse from the weight of the clothes and scare the crap out of me.

Why does stuff like that have to always happen in the dead of night?!
That was the first thing to go.

Laundry room.

Ohhhhhh boy.
It's really happening.
This is the only "progress" picture I got.  I was too excited to stop and take anymore.

If anyone out there actually does fold fitted do you do it?!

I got the vinyl lettering from Kassey at Everything Nice.  She has some cute projects and great prices so check her out if you're in need of anything vinyl.

I found the white cabinets above the washer and dryer in the classifieds and although they were a bit more than I wanted to spend, they were brand new, in the box, and the guy had 2 of them.
When you hit a jackpot like that you just get them anyway!
At least that's my theory.

By some strange miracle, the colors in this laundry room printable matched perfectly with the wall color and I found the orange mat at Hobby Lobby.  The frame was an old one that I spray painted a gloss white and slapped up on the wall with 3M Command Strips.  Ta-da!  A whopping $4 total, probably.

The yellow planters were courtesy of the D.I. (Goodwill) for $1 each and the checkered knobs I found at Hobby Lobby.

Laundry rooms need ceramic little love birds, right?
One more thing for the boys to break when they go climbing on the counter...

In case the boys forget where to drop their drawers - they go here.

----> Happy New Year!

Oh my gosh, how embarrassing.
It's almost May and I haven't posted in M O N T H S.
That's a little ridiculous.

I've never been good at multi-tasking and apparently being a wife, mom, keeping up a blog, and growing a fetus is a tad too much to ask of me.  Something had to give, and sadly it was the blogging but hopefully I'll start juggling things a little better.  Balance, Tara, balance.
As for growing a fetus, we are excited to be adding a little girl to our family at the end of the summer - someone to help off set all these boys we have running around here.  She's got her work cut out for her, this I know.  I'm a little nervous to have a girl, I'm not gonna lie- I don't even know how to french braid hair!  Regardless, I am....we are...ecstatic.

Here she is!

I've had a lot of people ask me what projects I've been working on and the sad answer is...nothing.
This pregnancy has sucked all the energy and ambition out of me and it takes everything I have just to get through a day.  The warmer weather has me excited to get outside again so maybe the paint bug will hit here soon!  Let's hope because I have quite a few things that didn't get done before the weather got cold.

Thanks for sticking around, I promise to do better at posting!

----> My Memories Scrapbook Software {GIVEAWAY!}

H  E  L  L  O O O O O O, people!

Whoa, so the weather starts to freeze up and I go into hibernation.
I've been in withdrawl from not being able to paint and it's driving me crazy!
I started a mini-redo of my laundry room which I'm excited to share with you but I can't do that until I can get my husband to finish hanging up the clothing rod.  Why is something so simple taking so long?!
Don't ask.

Anyway, today I have something waaaaaaaay more exciting than talking about my unfinished laundry room.
'Tis the season for giving,
so who's ready for a GIVEAWAY?!

In my past life (you know, the one where I only had one child and all the time in the world to dote on him and everything pertaining to him) I was a huge digital scrapbooker.  I still love doing it but it takes a lot of time.  If you've ever done it, you know what I'm talking about.  Not only does it take a lot of time, but it requires some sort of program - I used Photoshop - and a knowledge of what in the world you're doing!
My Memories is a scrapbooking software that helps you make your album pages with ease.  You can use their already made templates (which are so cute) or you can make your own pages from scratch.  The cool thing about it too is that it's not just for making scrapbook pages - you can make cards, calendars, the possibilities are endless.  I started playing around with it and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to navigate and understand.  No more spending hours on Google trying to figure out how to do something in Photoshop!

Head on over to their website and check it out!
Scrapbook papers, embellishments, templates, the whole deal comes with the My Memories Suite V3.
You can even make your digital scrapbook interactive by adding video, narration or music.  So cool!
And just in time for Christmas...

My Memories is giving a lucky Once Was Junk reader a FREE
My Memories Suite V3 valued at $39.97!

To enter:

Become a "follower" of Once Was Junk over there ----> on the right column of this blog and leave a comment with your email address so I can contact you if you win!

You can receive another entry if you visit My Memories on Facebook and "like" their page.
Just be sure to leave a comment telling me that you did.

The winner will be chosen at random on December 15th, 2011.
 Hold on!  There's more!

If you're ready to start scrapping your pages this instant, add the My Memories Suite V3 to your cart and enter the code
to receive $10 off your order and you'll also get a $10 coupon to use in the My Memories store.
This code can be used by anybody who wants to purchase the Suite so feel free to share the love.

Holy, awesome.
Where's the Diet Coke?

---> Side Bar Table

This table re-do was for a friend of mine who had just moved and wanted a fresh color to match her decor.  I'd never seen a side table like this before - it was awesome and such high quality...I think it weighed a ton.  Initially I get nervous that I'll do something wrong and screw up a quality piece of furniture, but then I take a deep breath and remind myself that fresh paint makes everything look better.
Lindsay liked the first dresser  that I had repainted and thought that it would match the rest of the room so we went with it.  After it was painted I did a couple coats of brown glaze and I love how it turned out.
Luckily, so did she. :)

 The two side doors opened up and had hardware that I needed to remove before I could start painting.  With the three hinges holding the door on, plus all the hardware on the shelves, I could have sworn there were eleven million screws.  I had labeled ziploc bags so I wouldn't forget which screws went where because there were so many.  Times like that make me fall in love with power tools all over again.
The middle piece swiveled open and it took me way too long to figure out how to get it off.  If finally dawned on me to turn it over and take the bottom piece off first.

And here it is at home:

Lindsay emailed me these pictures of her front room and I love it!  Her chairs, pillows, lamp, everything!

It all looks so good.  Not to mention her adorable kids on the wall.

----> Granny Witch's Cabbage Stew

My husband's maternal grandmother's last name is Rich.
When our son was learning to talk he used to call her Granny Witch.  It was one of those things that's too cute/hilarious to correct - so we just let him call her that.  We all got a kick out of it and he really thought that was her name...and that she was a witch; like one from Halloween.  So in keeping with the season, here's one of my favorite recipes from Granny "Witch".
This is one of those soups that's delicious and full of vegetables.  My kids even eat it, and they don't usually eat anything that's not laced with sugar or deep fried.  Hopefully yours will love it too!

Granny Witch's Cabbage Stew

1 large can Campbell's Tomato Juice
1.5 cups celery, chopped
1.5 cups carrots, chopped
1/2 cup onion, diced
1 can green beans, undrained
1 can corn, undrained
1 lb. ground beef, cooked and drained
1/2 head cabbage, chopped
salt and pepper to taste

Cook beef and drain fat.  Combine all ingredients in a big pot and cook until vegetables are tender.

I usually get it boiling and then put a lid on it and simmer for an hour and a half.

----> Halloween Printables {Round-Up}

In case you hadn't noticed, this girl loves printables.  I wish I had enough room (and frames!) in my house to display all of them because I love them all!  I get bored with my decor at a faster rate than I should probably admit and this lets me switch things up in a quick, cheap way.

There's still time to decorate for Halloween so hurry and get these up!
Click on the name of the blog, NOT THE PICTURE, and it'll re-route you to the download on the original post.
