I've mentioned before that bookshelves aren't my thing. Especially book shelves with kids books strewn all over the place. When I first saw these forward facing ones on Ohdeedoh back in January I got goosebumps.
Forward facing.
Small.
Simple.
Paintable.
BRILLIANT.
We have an IKEA about 25 minutes away and I had been a couple times looking for other things and would always end up in the kitchen gadget area looking for these spice racks. They were never there. Why does this always happen when you're so excited about something and then you go to get it and they don't have it?! The last trip I made I stumbled upon a whole pallet of them and just about shrieked out loud.
They are so perfect for kids books and for $3.99 each it sure beats the hassle of making them yourself!
They come with all the hardware to put them together - you just need screws to secure them into the wall.
I used my Rust-oleum "Almond" gloss left over from this table to spray paint them.
The natural wood color was pretty too but I tend to lean toward spray painting anything I can get my hands on. You choose.
Overcast + Rain + Huge bunk bed blocking any light coming in the window=awful picture taking day in an upstairs room...but you get my drift.
I used a stud finder to secure them into the wall. I realize that placing them so close to the bed is probably begging for a game of Tarzan, but I've threatened warned the boys that if they hang on them the monsters will come. And we haven't had monster sightings for months.

Only $3.99?! I need to get myself to Ikea.
What a great idea! You are brilliant! I love your Land of Nod posters too. I get that mag and drool over the pages but not the prices. :)
Ok...just might have to copy you and use them for cookbooks in the kitchen! You are so talented and inventive :D
I love it!! I'm soooooo doing this. Right now we have books littering K's floor. It's awful and anything I have tried to corral the books has been a flop. This will totally do this trick of keeping her books up and out of the way. Thanks for the tip!
WE are doing this in our little girls room. I can't wait to get the shelves!
